With 1/8th scale Nitro Off-Road Buggy racing becoming more and more popular, the OFNA Hyper 7 TQ Sport Kit is an excellent choice in both price and quality. This kit allows the novice or experienced RC'er alike to enter a class which may have seemed off limits in the past, due in most part to the expense of a 1/8th scale buggy.

The TQ Sport Kit can be found at various dealers in the price range of about $210-$240. I would consider this kit an ARR (Almost Ready to Run). It comes about 80% assembled, requiring you to build and install the shocks, install your radio gear (not included), as well as your engine (not included) and the associated linkages, etc. All other engine accessories are included in the kit, such as the muffler and header, mounts, clutch, flywheel, air filter and more making installation a breeze and keeping your overall costs down.

I found the exclusion of the radio and engine was actually a positive thing, allowing the end user the freedom to choose their own gear, rather than settling for the equipment that generally comes in an RTR (Ready To Run) kit.

In addition to the radio and engine, you are also going to need a few building essentials. The tires are not glued when the kit arrives, so you are going to need to have some tire glue on hand. I also liked this about the kit as well, as I found this to be the opportune time to swap out the factory tires and mount my track favorites on the supplied wheels. I would also recommend getting an assortment of shock oils. The oil provided is barely enough to assemble all four shocks and may not be ideal for your needs either. Also helpful are a decent set of hand tools such as screwdrivers, nut drivers, and good hex drivers. If you have ever assembled anything with the supplied allen wrenches in almost any kit, your fingers will appreciate a good set of hand tools.

About the only complaint I had during the assembly process would be my desire for the three diffs to not be pre-installed when the kit arrives. All three diffs are pre-assembled and installed with diff grease. Due to the benefits of using each diff as a tuning and setup aid, I would have preferred to install the diffs myself allowing me to choose the proper fluids for each to suit my needs. Oh well, this can be taken care of in the near future during a good cleaning session.

As far as quality, fit and finish, everything seemed to go together great and I was very happy with the pre-assembly work as well. The instruction manual, while by far not the worst I have seen, did leave some things to be desired. More text and clearer identification in some areas would have been more helpful.

Feature wise, this buggy has everything that you would probably expect in this type of kit. Oil filled coil over aluminum shocks, shaft driven 4WD with front CV drive, A variety of aluminum chassis parts including the 3.2mm chassis, lots of tune-ability and suspension adjustments, and much more. A clear, pre-cut, lexan body is also included to allow you to lay down your own custom paint job.

Looking ahead, with the amount of support and upgrade parts available for the Hyper series, this buggy should keep you competitive and having fun for a long time to come.
